The activities in synthesis and processing include the development of field assisted sintering and colloidal processing of ceramics; solid-state chemistry routes for novel inorganic compounds and
porous carbons from fly ash; self-assembly of nanoparticles and surface active agents to generate mesocrystals and porous material; biomimetic routes for the synthesis of inorganic and hybrid inorganic/organic materials.
We use a wide range of imaging, diffraction and spectroscopic techniques to characterize our materials e.g., electron microscopy, AFM, CSLM, solid state NMR, and FTIR. In addition, we employ various methods to probe the adsorptive, optical, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical properties of the materials.
