Environmental Chemistry

Research and education are major activities in Environmental chemistry. The research has led to major discoveries among reactive chemicals like acryl amide, brominated flame retardantants and several POPs.

The activities include chemical synthesis of chemicals with the natural abundance of isotopes as well as radiolabeled compounds – chemicals to be applied as authentic reference standards and test compounds in interdisciplinary research that is of critical importance in the field. Further, exposure assessments of potentially carcinogenic chemicals and endocrine disruptors are pursued in wildlife and in humans.

The research activities stretch towards method development, concept definitions and chemical policy issues.
