Porous Materials

Porous materials occur widely and have many important applications. The materials can be natural occurring or synthetically prepared. Many are disordered like activated carbons others are ordered as zeolites. They can be used as substrates to support catalysts and can act as highly selective sieves or cages that only allow access to molecules up to a certain size. The adsorbing properties also make them useable as adsorbents for various species but also for slow release of molecules, like controlled drug delivery.
